Neurotech Reports Announces Winners of Gold Electrode Awards

Neurotech Reports, the publisher of Neurotech Business Report, announced the winners of the 2020 Gold Electrode Awards during the 20th Annual Neurotech Leaders Forum, which took place November 16-17 in San Francisco and also via Zoom. The award for best new product went to Axonics Modulation for its R-SNM sacral nerve stimulation system. The award for most promising startup went to Synchron Inc., which is developing a novel brain-computer interface that is migrated to the brain via the cerebral vasculature.

One of the things we were wrong about is the speed with which consumer applications of neurotechnology would emerge. We expected that computer hardware and software vendors would be chomping at the bit to integrate neural data into their products, and that frankly didn’t happen.

Kernel Team Showcases New Flow Headset and Recruits Early Adopters

Kernel, the Venice, CA developer of brain sensing and analysis systems launched in 2016 , took to the Internet earlier this month to demonstrate the company’s new Flow headset. The livestream featured interviews with key neuroscientists who discussed the function and applications of the new device. Kernel Flow is a noninvasive brain interface which records real-time, cortical hemodynamics to establish precise patterns of brain activity.

The neurotechnology market for treating migraine continues to show promise, despite some uncertainties caused early entrants in the space. While the commercial failures have caused concern in some patient advocacy groups, the wealth of product alternatives will likely keep this product segment on an upward trajectory. In August, eNeura Inc., a manufacturer of a handheld TMS device for treating migraine, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and no other vendor has yet emerged to continue marketing their device.
